Kentaro Miura is the author of the dark fantasy manga series titled Berserk, as well as the artwork that go along with it. The plot revolves on the characters of Guts, a lone mercenary, and Griffith, the leader of a band of mercenaries known as the Band of the Hawk. The action takes place in a gloomy fantasy world. The scene is a divine world in medieval Europe. The narrative examines both the most commendable and the most abhorrent facets of human nature; as a consequence, themes of community and loneliness, as well as the question of whether mankind as a whole is basically good or bad, are present throughout. Attention has been drawn to both the anime and the manga for their use of extreme violence and explicit sexual content.
Berserk manga has gore.
The Hawks are first lauded as heroes for their role in ending the century-long battle that had been devasting the state of Midland until Guts leaves the Hawks to follow his own vision. Griffith’s dreams of one day becoming king of his own realm, however, are destroyed in the process. The King’s daughter, Charlotte, is the object of Griffith’s efforts to court her while he serves a year in prison for failing to accept the loss of his wife. Since Guts learnt about this and assisted the forbidden remnants of the Hawks to rescue Griffith, Griffith has been reduced to a mute shell of his former self. Griffith has been badly scarred ever since. He accidentally activates the behelit on his man and his wants show that there is too much for Griffith to think about. The weight of understanding his body is too damaged for him to do. This directs the Hawks to a different plane, where they come upon four archdemons known as the God Hand working for the Eclipse. The apostles, who, like Zodd, have sacrificed mankind and their nearest and dearest for the might of the God Hand, beckon Griffith to turn up his men to them. Griffith is able to achieve his goal of leading the God Hand by accomplishing this, making him the group’s last member. Guts watches as his fellow troops are mercilessly slain, even though the unnamed Skull Knight saves him and his beloved Casca from certain death. Guts still witnesses the deaths of his fellow troops, however. Intestines loses an eye and an arm after being sexually assaulted by the reborn Griffith, now known as Femto, and Casca becomes mad as a result of the ordeal.
The first iteration of the Berserk manga was released to the public by Miura in 1988.
After coming across Farnese of the Holy Iron Chain Knights of the Holy See Church, Guts has a torture nightmare that ends with Griffith having his physical type returned. With the aid of his new friends, Guts transports Casca to the elven country of Elfhelm for safety, while Griffith establishes a second Band of the Hawk and enlists Zodd and other Apostles to battle the approaching Kushan army. The Kushan invasion must be repelled, says Griffith. The destruction of the Kushan emperor and the fusion of the supernatural and natural realms mark the culmination of the war between Griffith, a rebel apostle, and the emperor. With the approval of the Pope and Princess Charlotte, Griffith takes control of Midland since he is no longer endangered by good or evil. In order to shield the residents of Midland from the more frequent raids by wonderful creatures, he also founds the city of Falconia.
